Target Audience : My Representation

Image
My Representation: Male For the representation of my stereotypical male indie rock fan I wanted to reflect what I'd previously discovered through my target audience research. I did this firstly by showcasing his carefree nature with the long and unkempt hair, although this may still be considered current and on-trend. From my target audience research I discovered that the stereotypical outfit for an 'indie' male is breton stripes and black skinny jeans, which I decided to show in my representation to best reflect their style. As well as this, I also wanted to include one garish piece of clothing that reflected the styles of indie rock artists that I first discovered in my genre research. For this, I chose a bucket hat that are most commonly worn at concerts and festivals. However, the fact that it's camouflage print shows that he is still aware of trends and is fashion conscious. My Representation: Female  Similar to my male representation, I decided to st...

Location Recce / Recce Photos

Image
Location Recce After doing my storyboard and shot list, I had a rough idea of what I wanted my music video to look like. However, in order to help me be more specific with my ideas I visited some locations I thought would be suitable. 1. The Field  In my storyboard/shot list I had envisioned a corn field for the scenes where the girl meets the boy in the rabbit mask. These scenes underpin the whole narrative of the music video as the pivotal moments happen here which makes the location even more important. Luckily, I was able to find a field that was exactly what I was looking for.  As it is very overgrown, it creates a very enclosed space which helps for both the shots where Phoebe is running away and feels trapped and the intimate shots with the boy in the rabbit mask.   2. The Beach  I wanted to use the beach as a location to reflect the true nature of the masked people who are really just carefree and adventurous teens, somethin...

PRELIMINARY : Hip Hop Poster

Image
Hip-Hop Print Advert This is my practice poster, which I have created in order to advertise a new Hip-Hop album. The advert features 'Jean Ralphio' and 'Tommy Fresh' as from my research of the hip-hop genre, many posters feature the artists as fans like to feel as though they connect with the artist. Their clothing, stance, and the fact they're looking away from the camera implies a careless attitude which a lot of hip-hop fans would aspire to be like. However, they aren't the central selling point as I ensured the text was larger and brighter than them as the name of the album needs to grab people's attention as they walk past the poster on the street or see it as they flip through a magazine. The yellow contrasts the brick wall and their dark clothing as well as connoting to money and riches, which makes it perfect to get that attention. Hip-hop artists is commonly associated with skating and graffiti as it shows their non-conformist attitudes, whi...

Ideas Drafting - Inspiration from Peers

Peer Feedback In order to gain a wide range of opinions and first impressions of my chosen song, I played it for my peers. It was interesting to see how some ideas complimented my own and some completely contrasted, but overall it has helped me build a bigger and clearer picture of what my music video will look like. Through my feedback, my peers have suggested my music video should primarily be performance and narrative, although some have suggested conceptual elements may be effective. To include all three would be challenging, but the pace and lyrics of the song allow me to be more adventurous with the visuals. It is clear through the responses to the song that my peers think the central role of the music video should be on a young/teen girl which would fit well with the target audience of my chosen genre. I also like the idea many of my peers had - a coming of age type narrative where it follows a personal growth. I like the idea Peer 7  had of the mood shi...

PRELIMINARY : Hip-Hop CD Cover

Image
Hip-Hop CD Cover When researching the conventions of a CD cover for the Hip-Hop Genre, I found it hard to identify common themes between them. However, it is evident that Hip-Hop is a genre dominated by men. With the names 'Jean Ralphio' and 'Tommy Fresh' that I was given, as well as male artists being stereotypical of Hip-Hop songs, I thought it was fitting to have two male subjects on the cover. For the outfits, casual clothing with 'bling' seemed to appear on many of the Hip-Hop albums I looked at. In-keeping with this, I have one of the subjects dressed in a denim jacket and a baseball cap turned backwards to show attitude. For my own CD cover, I took inspiration from two Hip-Hop artists that I am most familiar with.  Like many album covers for the Hip-Hop genre, this album is very simplistic and use block colours. I drew inspiration from this cover of Drake's album with the cropped image and the black background. Due to Drake b...

Annotated Lyrics

Image
Annotated Lyrics  These are some initial ideas that came to mind when listening to my chosen song. By writing down these ideas and pairing them with the lyrics, it helped me decide how many characters/props/locations I am going to need for my video. As well as this, these annotated lyrics will be a helpful resource when creating my storyboard and shot list.

EXTENSION: Shot-by-shot breakdown of Lorde / Perfect Places.

Image
To inspire shots for my own music video, I did a breakdown of shots for some of Lorde's music video Perfect Places . It helped me identify patterns in the cinematography and the reasoning behind why the particular shots were taken.  1. Mid-Shot: This is the opening shot to the music video. As mentioned in my analysis of the video, the shot and it's composition is very important. The mid-shot allows the audience to identify Lorde and her surroundings. The symmetry of the composition means the audience's attention is drawn to Lorde. Her focus is down the lens at the audience instantly engaging them.   2. Close-up: The two shots are bridged together by Lorde's eye contact with the audience. The close-up adds intimacy between the artist and the viewer. The composition adds interest between the two mid-shots where Lorde is central, but remains visually appealing because of the rule of thirds.   3. Mid-shot: This shot is the same as the first shot the vie...
