PRELIMINARY : Hip-Hop CD Cover
Hip-Hop CD Cover
When researching the conventions of a CD cover for the Hip-Hop Genre, I found it hard to identify common themes between them. However, it is evident that Hip-Hop is a genre dominated by men. With the names 'Jean Ralphio' and 'Tommy Fresh' that I was given, as well as male artists being stereotypical of Hip-Hop songs, I thought it was fitting to have two male subjects on the cover.
For the outfits, casual clothing with 'bling' seemed to appear on many of the Hip-Hop albums I looked at. In-keeping with this, I have one of the subjects dressed in a denim jacket and a baseball cap turned backwards to show attitude.
For my own CD cover, I took inspiration from two Hip-Hop artists that I am most familiar with.
Like many album covers for the Hip-Hop genre, this album is very simplistic and use block colours. I drew inspiration from this cover of Drake's album with the cropped image and the black background. Due to Drake being a very successful artist, I knew my album cover would appeal to Hip-Hop fans.
Again, Kanye West's 'Life of Pablo' album cover is very simplistic - using block orange to dominate most of the cover. Instead of letting images of himself bring the audience in, the text does most of the talking. I drew inspiration from this by repeating the title name multiple times on my front cover.
