Annotated Lyrics

Image
Annotated Lyrics  These are some initial ideas that came to mind when listening to my chosen song. By writing down these ideas and pairing them with the lyrics, it helped me decide how many characters/props/locations I am going to need for my video. As well as this, these annotated lyrics will be a helpful resource when creating my storyboard and shot list.

EXTENSION: Shot-by-shot breakdown of Lorde / Perfect Places.

Image
To inspire shots for my own music video, I did a breakdown of shots for some of Lorde's music video Perfect Places . It helped me identify patterns in the cinematography and the reasoning behind why the particular shots were taken.  1. Mid-Shot: This is the opening shot to the music video. As mentioned in my analysis of the video, the shot and it's composition is very important. The mid-shot allows the audience to identify Lorde and her surroundings. The symmetry of the composition means the audience's attention is drawn to Lorde. Her focus is down the lens at the audience instantly engaging them.   2. Close-up: The two shots are bridged together by Lorde's eye contact with the audience. The close-up adds intimacy between the artist and the viewer. The composition adds interest between the two mid-shots where Lorde is central, but remains visually appealing because of the rule of thirds.   3. Mid-shot: This shot is the same as the first shot the vie...

Ideas Drafting - My Mood Board

My Mood Board Whilst listening to the song, I collected photos online and from magazines that fitted my initial ideas. This included colour palettes, locations, possible camera angles and composition. With these images I created a mood board on an A3 piece of paper to help organise my ideas and see how they work together. After finishing my mood board, I decided to display the four key sections in a powerpoint so I could note down my thought process behind the images I chose. This will be a helpful resource to refer back to throughout pre-production, production and post-production. Music Video Mood Board from Livvy Savage

My Chosen Song : Lorde / Bravado

Image
Lorde - Bravado  The song I have chosen for my music video is called Bravado by Lorde .  She is a 20 year-old singer from New Zealand, whose real name is Ella Yelich - O'Connor. Her music can be categorised as   electropop, dream pop   and   indie rock . The song Bravado is from her first album Pure Heroine (Extended) . One of the reasons why I chose this song is because although Lorde is popular, this song is less well-known. This particular song also doesn't have a music video so I won't be influenced by Lorde's interpretation.  My music taste is extensive and diverse, but many of my favourites would be restricted to the common storyline of a doomed relationship, which would limit my presentation of the song visually.  However, Lorde's music lends itself to being cinematic and her lyrics don't follow the usual mantra of other artists. This would allow me to challenge myself creatively with my own interpretation of the song.  ...

Lorde - Perfect Places Music Video Analysis

Image
Lorde - Perfect Places As my chosen song for my music video is by Lorde , I wanted to familiarise myself with the characteristics of her music videos. As this video was released on August 3rd 2017 , it is the most current and realistic representation of Lorde as an artist. 1. Thought beats - Where you 'see' in the sound.  It's clear to say that even to those who aren't a fan of  Lorde's music, she has a very distinctive voice. When Lorde first entered the music industry with her song Royals in 2013 , listeners and viewers were met with a female artist that had a unique sound paired with a unique outlook. She has undoubtedly made a mark on the music industry and it was said 'in a moment when too many new artists seem[ed] afraid to offend or go off script, Lorde [was] an exciting contradiction' ( Lindsay Zoladz, Pitchfork) . Four years later and Lorde continues to avoid the common narratives with her  Perfect Places music video. Within it, Lor...
